A Fun Weekend
October 6, 2008
This weekend, we headed back to Versailles MO for the grand Apple Festival. The kids love parades, so that was the main event we went for. Arwyn and Breckin loved the parade. They, of course, loved the candy and Arwyn really enjoyed that the entire parade stopped at one point just so she could pet a horse. That is the way it works in a small town. The entire operation shuts down for a few seconds just so a child can pet an animal. Versailles is such a strange place to me. I realize I grew up there, so it should be familiar and I should feel at home, but I don’t. I feel like an alien in a strange land. It is the type of town that has a good few people who actually care and have the money to invest in the town. There are some very cute and great businesses there. Then, it also has a good few who don’t have the money or state of mind to care. So, there is quite a mix. There are some truly gorgeous houses that have been kept up by their owners but are sitting right next to a house that could easily be mistaken for a junk yard. That is Versailles. Not to mention the lack of a Starbucks. They need a Starbucks. Anyway, the kids had a great time at the parade and the booths at the square this year were definitely an upgrade from past festivals. There were the typical booths with dream catchers and eagle statues (EW!) but there were also a large number of booths selling great stuff. I almost bought a few things, but had to remind myself that I am saving my cash for Israel. Afterwards we headed down my my aunt and uncles house for a roast and hayride. Here are a few pictures of our weekend.

Fun to see your dad and Breckin, side by side. They look a lot alike!
Jacksonville also does not have a Sbux, but it has been supposedly getting one for nearly 2 years. I wonder with all the Sbux closures if it will ever happen. Maybe the world as we know it will stop expanding in that way!

Oh, PS, since my ankle is busted, counting calories is just too depressing with no easy way to work out. Soooo…. I’m not going to any more.

I know what you mean about the town. You probably don’t remember but I am from Gravois. It is quite a bit worse than Versailles. I love to get away and go to KC or STL, but strangely enough I am alway’s ready to come back to the quiet little town we live in. Plus I have a TON of family still living here.

Oh, I definitely think the town has great potential and its own charm. My favorite thing is looking at the old houses there. They are quite beautiful and I love to look at them. I do wish they had a Starbucks though. That would be yummy.
