A Typical Moment in the Life of Jennifer Bentch
October 7, 2008
This morning the kids and I were walking Bosley. Breckin and Arwyn were sitting in the double stroller and Bosley was dutifully walking next to us. I usually walk about 1-1.5 miles, depending on my mood and the moods of my children. So we were enjoying a nice morning stroll. About halfway through the stroll, Arwyn declares she needs to go pee. I told her she would have to wait until we got home and that seemed to satisfy her. After all, most of the time when she declares the need to pee on a walk, she is crying wolf. So, she turned around and continued to eat her trail mix and drink her OJ. All was well. About 5 minutes later, she declared her need to pee again. I repeated myself, but this time she seemed upset by my answer. She started crying, squirming and frantically trying to climb out of her seat. Remembering last weekend when she peed a bit in the car because we were on the highway and couldn’t find an exit soon enough, I assured her I would get her home as fast as I could. I had about a half of a mile to go, so I started running. Picture it. Me, in jeans, a t-shirt, and tennis shoes, pushing a double stroller and tethered to a dog running frantically down the sidewalk in front of your house. I looked like an idiot and people were staring. But, I had to get my girl home. She needed to pee! Thankfully, the dog and kids appreciated the running. Bosley loves to run and the kids thought they were now on an exciting ride of some sort. They let out screams as if riding a roller coaster. Finally, we made it home. I was covered in sweat and immediately got Arwyn out of the stroller and ran her inside. I put her down in the bathroom to help her get situated. We had the following exchange.
Me: Arwyn, we made it home! Go potty.
Arwyn: No, I don’t need to. (then she happily left the bathroom to play with toys)
Figures. I swear something like this happens to me every single day.

I know this shouldn’t be funny but it is because it has happened to me so many times.
