Conversations with Breckin: Put a bandaid on it

My dear friend Kate just had a baby last Monday and throughout the end of her pregnancy Breckin was very concerned about the size of her stomach. He just kept telling me, “Mommy, her belly is going to break.” He was convinced it would pop like a balloon at some point and every time he saw her, he would mention it. It was very cute. So today, I explained to him that Kate had her baby and that it came out of her belly. Then, we had the following exchange.

Me: Breckin, did you know that Ms Kate had her baby. It came out of her belly.
Breckin: Did her belly break?
Me: (not really knowing exactly how to respond) Ummmmm….yes. Her belly broke. (I thought this was a much better explanation than the truth.)
Breckin: Whoa. I bet she needed a gigantic band aid for that Mommy.
Me: (insert hysterical laughter) Yes Breckin, if her belly broke she would need an awfully big band aid.
