Centsable Shopping

Date March 13, 2009

I recently attended a BeCentsAble Workshop. I am desperate to get my grocery and every day needs costs down and I figured this was my only shot at doing that. Well, my other shot would be to start feeding my kids crap, but since I am not that sort of girl, that is not really an option. So, I took what I learned last week and put it in action today at CVS and Walgreens. I can’t wait to try it out at Hy-Vee, my favorite grocery store.

CVS trip: Here is what I purchased….
2 Garnier Fructis Shampoos and 1 Conditioner –
On sale $3/10. I had 3 $1 off coupons, plus I got $5 in Extra Care Bucks back to put towards my next purchase. In summary $10-$3-$5=$2 that I paid for 3 Garnier Fructis products

3 General Mills Cereals
On sale $3/10. I had a $1 off coupon, plus I got $5 in Extra Care Bucks back to put towards my next purchase. In summary $10-$1-$5= $4 that I paid for 3 boxes of cereal

1 tube of Crest Pro-health toothpaste
On sale $2.99. I had a $.75 coupon, plus I got $2 in Extra Care Bucks back to put towards my next purchase. In summary $2.99-$.75-$2= $.24 I paid for a tube of toothpaste

So, I got $12 back in ECBs and immediately used them to purchase a 12 pack of Charmin Big Rolls and an 8 pack of Bounty paper towels. I walked away from CVS paying about $20 total. I should have paid $38 if I had bought all of these things at their regular price. That is a savings of 48%. Not a great as I would like, but I will take it for my first time out!

Walgreens – Here is what I bought! (I am super excited about this one!)
3 packages of Huggies Pull-ups
On sale for $10 each. I had a 2 $5 coupons and 1 $3 coupon I printed off of the internet for Huggies diapers. Plus, I got $10 in Register Rewards for purchasing 3 packages of Huggies.
In summary, $30-$5-$5-$3-$10= $7 for 3 packages of Pull-ups! Whoo-hoo!

What I should have paid – $30. That is more than a 75% discount!

I think I am a believer.

My next door office mate did the Walgreen’s pull up run, too! I wish we had a CVS around St. Louis, b/c all the CHI blogger moms talk about the deals there.

The Walgreens I stopped at was cleared out of the diapers. I was sad.

I am looking into taking this workshop in Naperville. Did you have to pay a fee for the workshop? Do you think it’ll be worth it?
